Oklahoma City Dental Crowns

Chipped a tooth? Ready to replace an old, unnatural filling? Need a crown for a tooth that’s decayed, discolored or misshapen? Dental crowns are excellent restorations to change the shape, size, and appearance of your natural teeth.

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap”. This is cemented over your tooth, affixed on a dental implant or placed in a dental bridge. The cap looks and functions like your natural tooth. A dental crown with Pragma Dental OKC can be made of ceramic, porcelain, gold and porcelain fused to metal. Crowns made of ceramic and porcelain can be color matched to match the shade of your surrounding teeth. Porcelain crowns fused to metal are a popular choice by dentists. The metal makes them extremely strong and durable, while the porcelain can be made to look like your natural tooth. A strong yet attractive option.

Why do I Need a Crown?

  Replace a filling

  Cover a dental implant

Change the size, shape and color of a tooth

  After root canal treatment

Protect a weak tooth (decay, cracked)

Hold a dental bridge in place

Dental Crown Procedure:

The typical crown process requires two visits.

First Visit:

Dr. Grace will take an x-ray of the tooth you are needing or wanting a crown on if she hasn’t already done so. She will make sure the tooth and surrounding bone are in good health. If severe tooth decay is found, to where the tooth can’t support a crown, this will need to be treated prior to crown placement. If the tooth and surrounding areas check out to be healthy she will numb the area and get started.

Dr. Grace will either fill/build up the tooth or file it down depending on what is needed. For teeth that are severely damaged or broken, Dr. Grace will need to fill or “build up” the tooth. Once the tooth is re-shaped an impression is taken. The impression is then sent to a dental lab where the crown is fabricated. This typically takes 2-3 weeks. You will wear a temporary crown during this time.

Second Visit:

When you come in for your second visit, Dr. Grace will make sure the color, size, and shape of the permanent crown are correct. If all checks out, the permanent crown is cemented in place. Your bite and all aesthetics will be checked prior to you leaving. If both you and Dr. Grace are satisfied, you are all set to head out!
